About the Museum of Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, 700000

Gia Long Palace (Vietnamese: Dinh Gia Long, French: Palais de Gia Long), now officially the Ho Chi Minh City Museum, is a historical site and museum in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The museum is situated at the corner of Ly Tu Trong and Nam Ky Khoi Nghia streets, on 2 hectares of land, near the Independence Palace.
The 2-story palace building covers an area of over 1700 m2, using classical Baroque architecture with European and Oriental influences. The flooring, staircases, and halls were European-style, while the roof was Oriental-inspired. Surrounding the palace is a trapezoid-shaped flower garden with four pathways.
The front face of the roof is decorated with grotesques. Other exterior structural designs include symbolic chickens representing daytime, owls for nighttime, and ring-enclosed white flowers. Many other motifs embossed on the roof are a combination of Greek mythological symbols, iconic plants, and tropical animals such as lizards and birds flying or expanding their wings.

What do people say about the Museum of Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam?

  • This museum has collections of war history and Vietnamese culture. The whole building is huge and in European style. It’s worth visiting once. However, the collections need to be maintained at a higher quality, and they shouldn’t allow people to have pre-wedding photo activities.
  • A great place to peek into the past of Vietnam and its culture. Overall, it was a good tour, and we saw some fascinating things. But we felt the experience could have been better. The central staircase was arguably the most beautiful part of the building and was occupied by an ongoing wedding photoshoot. The koi pond at the back was definitely a great place to sit and chill for a few minutes.
  • Worth visiting. A local museum about the city’s history and culture. Beautiful colonial building. It gives you a better understanding of Ho Chi Minh City; there are bits of everything. Don’t expect too much. A bit run-down, there are handfuls of popped-up tiles, mostly on the second floor.
  • This museum provides a deep dive into Ho Chi Minh City and Vietnam’s rich history. Predominantly centered around the Vietnam War, you can expect to see US military equipment like helicopters, fighter jets, and tanks showcased. A collection of unique artifacts inside the museum further illuminates the country’s past. A must-visit spot for gaining insights into Vietnam’s transformative journey is Ideal for travelers seeking a deeper understanding of their host country.
  • Visiting this museum is like visiting Ho Chi Minh City. You can learn about their story and history, their past, and their present in this museum. Unique architecture and so many couples come here to take their wedding pictures. The entrance fee is not expensive at all, and it’s a great place to bring kids too. A must-visit.
