In Houston, Texas, there is a part of Buffalo Bayou Park called Eleanor Tinsley Park. It was named in honor of Eleanor Tinsley, who served on the Houston City Council At-Large for 16 years, on April 20, 1998.

The park has the Lee and Joe Jamail Skatepark, the Shady Grove Victim Memorial, a Henry Moore sculpture called “Large Spindle Piece,” the Houston Police Officers’ Memorial, Glenwood Cemetery, the San Felipe playground, jogging trails, and a sand pit that can be used for volleyball.

Taft Street is the western edge of the park. Sabine Street is on its eastern edge. Memorial Drive runs along the northern edge. Allen Parkway, which is on its southern edge, is often closed for parades, road running, and racewalking.

The park is where the annual Free Press Summer Fest music festival, the Houston Art Car Parade, and the annual Freedom Over Texas Fourth of July party are held. In the past, “The Westheimer Street Festival in Exile” and “The Bob Marley Festival” were held in the park.
