The Houston Museum of Natural Science (abbreviated as HMNS) is a natural history museum located on the northern border of Hermann Park in Houston, Texas, United States. The museum was established in 1909 by the Houston Museum and Scientific Society, an organization whose goals were to provide a free institution for the people of Houston focusing on education and science. The museum complex consists of a central facility with four floors of natural science halls and exhibits, the Burke Baker Planetarium, the Cockrell Butterfly Center, and the Wortham Giant Screen Theatre (formerly known as the Wortham IMAX Theatre). In 2022 the museum received 1,520,000 visitors, making it seventh on the List of most-visited museums in the United States, and was the third most-visited U.S. science museum. Much of the museum’s popularity is attributed to its large number of special or guest exhibits.

I loved the fossils and the butterflies. My wife and daughter also really enjoyed the trip. There was a great crystal exhibit as well. Would love to go back!
This place will take 3–4 hours if you are visiting with kids. However, if you’re visiting alone, 2–3 hours should be enough. The museum is made up of three levels. In addition to the ground level, where you’ll see a lot of fossils and dinosaur eras, Some fossils had no tag or information, which I think was someone’s mistake for forgetting to add the information back. The kids will love the place because there are many educational activities.
First time here. I went to see Beautifica. I wasn’t sure what to expect. I really enjoyed it. The room fills up quickly with the open seating, so if there is an option, select VIP purchase so you won’t have a hard time getting a seat of your preference. The gift shop was really lovely as well.
Must-visit places in Houston. I purchased the Houston City Pass and planned to visit this place. It was a great choice. At a minimum, you need 5–6 hours to see the museum. Don’t miss: Tutankhamun Tomb History (extra pay), Fossils and Dinosaurs, Stones and Metal, Mammals, History of Egypt, The Foucault Pendulum, etc. Overall, it was a very good experience.
Go on a weekday, and look into buying the membership online before going. I got the partner one for my boyfriend and me, and it’s for a whole year. We got into the permanent exhibits for free, and the others only had to pay half! We were there almost all day. The staff is very welcoming and friendly.
