About Cao Dai Holy See Temple in Tay Ninh, VN 840000
This first Cao Dai Temple, completed in 1947, features unique architecture & a colorful interior.
Located 90 kilometers (56 mi) northwest of Saigon in Tây-Ninh Province is the Caodaist Holy See. At the center of this city stands the Great Divine Temple. This Holy See, like religion, is a fusion of world influences. As well as being a major center of pilgrimage, the Caodaism Holy See is also one of Vietnam’s major tourist attractions.
The official name of the Cao Dai religion (or Caodaism) is Dai Dao Tam Ky Pho Do. Translated directly it means “The Third Great Universal Religious Amnesty”.
According to Cao Dai’s dogma, this Third Period will be of intense religious activity that will unite God and humanity in ways not yet imagined. Cao Dai also states that the Third Amnesty will establish a new great faith for the salvation of living beings before universal destruction. The primary objective of the Third Amnesty is the unity of all religions, which will bring mankind together in a universal family for universal peace.
Caodaism teaches that, throughout human history, God the Father has revealed his truth many times through the mouths of many prophets, but these messages were always either ignored or forgotten due to humanity’s susceptibility to secular desires. Adherents believe that the age has now come when God speaks to humanity directly.
In the nineteenth century, Spiritism became established in Europe. The likes of Madam Blavatsky, Allan Kardec, and Victor Hugo championed new religious possibilities. In Vietnam, the age-old traditions of Asian divination and mediumship began to mix with the new traditions of European Spiritism.
To highlight this objective of unity, there is a representation of the Divine Covenant of The Third Amnesty (The Third Alliance) inside every Cao Dai Temple. This Covenant between Heaven and Earth is written and presented to humanity by the Venerable Saints Victor Hugo, Sun Yat Sen, and Nguyen Binh Khiem. Their mission is said to guide humanity into the way of the Third Amnesty. The Covenant is written in French: “Dieu et Humanite Amour et Justice”; and in Chinese: 天上天下 博愛公平. This translates into English as: “God and Humanity [for] Love and Justice.”

What do people say about Cao Dai Holy See Temple, 840000?
- A fascinating religious complex, quite a huge area with schools, and functional buildings in the same area People at the temple are strict but kind.
- Although I visited here some years ago now, the memory still lingers! We had a day set aside especially to make the trip here, and it was very much worth it, even if it did take hours of driving through paddy fields to get here. A fascinating place, the likes of which I’ve never seen before, with brightly painted columns and arches, and the priests too wearing vivid colors. Fascinating! well worth a visit if you’re in the area.
- One of the best things to see in Tay Ninh Province is just less than 2 hours away from Saigon. This palace complex is well-preserved and located right in the center of the town, making it very suitable for a stroll in the evening. The architecture is definitely beyond impressive and worth checking out. There is also a big park in the middle where you can watch monkeys.
- The Holy See is a major site for Caodaism, where the religion was started in Tây Ninh, but is best appreciated during the cooler times of the day. The main prayer hall, the Great Divine Temple, is impressive both outside and inside. Also, walk down the roadway to the gardens, which have many potted plants and flowers. Be careful with small children or food, as there are many monkeys in the wooden park and they roam onto the grass and paved areas.
- Massive religious complex with multiple gardens and buildings housing a combination of Taoism, Buddhism, and Christian religious figures.
